When he made the text to the alleged hitman sanctioning the killing of his wife and his daughter, he sent it to the wrong guy.

People can confirm that the 42-year-old man, named Jeff Lytle, was arrested last week on two counts of criminal solicitation for first-degree murder.

"You remember you said that you would help me kill my wife", Lytle wrote. "I'm going to take you up on that offer", the text message read, according to court documents. He suggested that "Shayne" could also kill Lytle's daughter, 4, whose life insurance policy was valued at $500,000, for a bonus payment.

The message seemingly urged "Shayne" to make the hit "look like a robbery gone wrong or make it a accident".

"I'll split everything with the insurance 50/50", the text allegedly concluded.

Investigators have applied for a warrant to search Lytle's phone and property for documents related to the family's life insurance plans.

Lytle said he told police he often uses text messaging to express his frustrations, but never meant to harm his wife or daughter.

German Ellano, who CBS affiliate KIRO identified as Lytle's roommate, told the news station that the text message could have been a misunderstanding, saying, "He's not going to do something like that". He said that he wrote the messages in order to "vent" a little bit, and that he never wanted to send them.
