Klages was suspended from her role at MSU on Monday after a January 31 motion alleged she discouraged a gymnast from reporting former MSU employee Larry Nassar's alleged sexual abuse.

Along with serving as the team doctor for Michigan State, Nassar was also the team doctor for the US gymnastics team for four Olympic games.

Dr. Larry Nassar, who treated several U.S. Olympic athletes, and is the former Spartans team doctor, is being accused of sexual assault.

In a January 31 court filing, one woman says Klages diminished her concerns in the late 1990s.

The latest allegation against Klages, who resigned after 27 seasons, stems from a meeting with the MSU gymnastics team on September 12 to make the athletes aware of allegations against Nassar that were published in a newspaper.

But Athletic Director Mark Hollis said Klages' suspension related to "allegations that members of the women's gymnastics team were discouraged from cooperating with the ongoing law enforcement investigation of Dr. Nassar". Her recent suspension as head coach is a outcome of that,"according to the statement". And after believing that she'd just been receiving legitimate medical treatment all these years, Jane Y Doe now told her mother she believed she'd been abused - including Nassar repeatedly penetrating her anally and digitally with his fingers, according to court documents.

Klages' attorney, Shirlee Bobryk, could not be reached for comment.

That's according to a lawsuit (which you can read here) filed by a scholarship student on the team, who also says she was repeatedly assaulted by Nassar as a child.

Nassar was sacked from his job with the university in September 2016.

Still, when her mother confronted Coach Klages, Klages was adamant that Nassar was innocent of any wrongdoing, White says.

Klages didn't respond to this letter.

After 27 years as a coach for the gymnastic team, Kathie Klages was suspended without any further explanation this Monday.

The university has declined to comment on specific allegations but said its police department is investigating all allegations.

In recent months, dozens of former female patients have filed criminal and civil complaints saying they were sexually abused by Nassar under the guise of medical treatment. The lawsuit will have 35 plaintiffs with the addition of the four who filed motions Tuesday.

However, when it comes to some of the attorneys who are representing clients in this case, some say while the MSU Police Department has done well with the criminal investigation into Nassar, there's some concerns when it comes to MSU and its staff members.

Nassar, 53, of Holt, worked for decades at MSU and with USA Gymnastics.

"At this point in time, I think until the university brings in a third party, to look at its internal institutions, its methods for reporting and vetting sexual assaults, there's a potential for this to happen again", White said. Numerous allegations date back decades and involve medical appointments. In two separate criminal cases, he's charged with sexually abusing a girl at his Lansing-area home and possessing child pornography.

However, he has not been charged with crimes related to his role as a doctor for the university.
