Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown said U.S. workers "can breathe a sigh of relief" after Puzder's announcement.

President Donald Trump today named FIU Law Dean Alex Acotsa as his new labor secretary choice.

Puzder added that "while I won't be serving in the administration, I fully support the president and his highly qualified team".

Four GOP senators have expressed reservations about Puzder's nomination, and no Dems are expected to give him a nod, the political web site reports.

Trump made the announcement at a White House press conference and noted that Acosta has been confirmed by the Senate on three occasions.

Puzder has also argued that a higher minimum wage would encourage employers to replace human employees with automated technology.

Rumors of his withdrawal had swirled since early January, with his confirmation hearings long-delayed due to tardy financial disclosure forms.

According to The Washington Post, the organization has already received some of the records, which include allegations from Puzder's ex-wife, Lisa Fierstein, that he assaulted her. "When I learned of her status, we immediately ended her employment and offered her assistance in getting legal status", Puzder told the committee.
